The Raw Food Diet, Review of common concerns

by Roger Fairburn

In a Raw Food Diet you eat only uncooked foods like fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds - basically a vegetarian diet. These uncooked foods are digested and metabolized easily and are lower in calories than most cooked food meals. Hunger and cravings are a common concern, however the high fiber and nutritional content is said to take care of these worries.

Another common concern about a raw food diet is whether your are going to ingest enough fat and protein. Again, this is not a problem as certain types of fruit, nuts and vegetables are very high in protein. And there will also be no shortage of good fats.

One thing to note is that mixing cooked food with raw food is not recommended. It is said that digesting cooked food can cause the stomach to produce an acid that doesn't mix well with raw foods and can cause indigestion.

Does a Raw Food Diet sound like something you could do long-term? If not you might just ensure that some short-term weight loss is re-gained (as with most diets...)
I think a sensible sustainable approach would be to transition to a raw food diet over a period of time, or perhaps don't fully change to a raw food diet, but rather be 75% raw food.
And of course incorporate regular exercise into your lifestyle too.
